Mermay 2026 – Day Six – Impressionism

I was not looking forward to today’s prompt, impressionsim. My first idea was to quote Manet’s The Luncheon on the Grass, which I kept getting mixed up with Olympia. This felt derivative. So, I continued to look at other paintings that would inspire me, or think of ways to do an impressionist style. I didn’t find any paintings that I liked, and style-wise, there is a limit to what I can do with watercolor at the moment.

Without any better ideas, I reluctantly went back to the original idea. At the last minute, I thought to replace the men from the painting with divers. All of a sudden, it became far better than I expected.
