A Storm of Swords – Hands of Gold

Tyrion is horrified to find Shae in his father‘s bed. This leads to him strangling her with the official chain of the Hand of the King
Rereading this scene, I’m surprised at how passive Shae was in the scene. The amount of effort described almost made it feel like Daenerys smothering Khal Drogo with a pillow.
I found myself much preferring the scene in the show where we could almost rationalize Tyrian acting in self-defense.
For my version, of Shea Iesist slightly.
I don’t think we ever see the real Shae in this book the closest I think is that we see behind her mask if she has one is the look that she gives the knowing look that she gives Sansa across the room in the sack of Kings Landing. Based on the evidence shown, I think she’d have some sense of self-preservation.
I don’t know if there’s anything to the fan theory that suggests that Shay is secretly one of Varys’s agents. Based on this scene, I shall propose a new theory that she’s drugged, probably by Varys.

Tyrion slid a hand under his father’s chain, and twisted. The links tightened, digging into her neck. “For hands of gold are always cold, but a woman’s hands are warm,” he said. He gave cold hands another twist as the warm ones beat away his tears.
