A Clash Of Kings – Janos Slynt

The second Tyrion chapter has a lot of things to work with. THough the best scene for me is the fall of Janos Slynt. Slynt is an interesting character. Not only is he a corrupt toady, but he’s a no-nothing social climber as well. There are several other characters who also climb, but Janos Slynt stands out because he’s so bad at this.

I find the dinner scene especially fun because Janos is trying to keep up with Tyrion and failing. He’s trying to be knowledgeable about wine and cheese and only proves he knows nothing.

Lord Janos gave Tyrion a wary look, then laughed and wagged a wedge of cheese at him. “You’re a sly one, Tyrion. Thought you could trick me, did you? It takes more than wine and cheese to make Janos Slynt tell more than he should. I pride myself. Never a question, and never a word afterward, not with me.”
