A Storm of Swords – The Gift

Joffrey decides to test his new Valaryen steel sword on Tyrion’s gift of one of the four existing copies of the history book “Lives of Four Kings”. Never has Westerosi cultural anti-intellectualism been so obvious.

Ever since I read Titus Groan, I had issues with crimes against books in literature. While Mr. Martin doesn’t quite treat it as the atrocity that Mr. Peake did, the Catspaw setting the Winterfell library put me off Game of Thrones for about ten months. While this scene isn’t quite as blatant it’s still just a little triggering.

Let’s just say I’m not sending Joffrey a card anytime soon.

Still, I like how Tyrion’s glower is slightly cut off by the height of the table.

“Now there are three.” Joffrey undid his old swordbelt to don his new one. “You and Lady Sansa owe me a better present, Uncle Imp. This one is all chopped to pieces.”
