A Storm of Swords – Small Paul

A Storm of Swords – Small Paul

Sam and Gilly’s short night of safety ends with A ZOMBIFIED Small Paul breaking down the longhouse door.
I was looking forward to the scene. It’s a nice mixture of comedy and terror. The terror being the last person you would ever want to be turned into a wight Is Small Paul. (OK, maybe the Mountain, but you he’s already a nightmare) the humor comes in that, despite how terrifying this is, Mormont’s Raven is still happily having a little snack. It was fun just leaning back and doing this picture. Perhaps it might’ve worked better as a portrait, but I like the context.

Beyond that, the two things wrong with it are, first, it’s hard to do a good Raven in this black-and-white format, and, second, I only realized Paul wasn’t wearing gloves until after I finished this.

Paul’s hands were coal, his face was milk, his eyes shone a bitter blue. Hoarfrost whitened his beard, and on one shoulder hunched a raven, pecking at his cheek, eating the dead white flesh.
