A Storm of Swords – Longhouse

Sam wakes up in the middle of the night. He’s convinced there’s something outside of the longhouse. The horse agrees.

This one was middling. It was one of the pages I chose at random. It’s part of the exercise of this challenge. The downside of this is, now and again, you’re going to get a whole page of a character contemplating their navels. I did my best.

The fire had burned down to smouldering red embers. The air itself seemed frozen, it was so cold. In the corner the garron was whinnying and kicking the logs with her hind legs. Gilly sat beside the fire, hugging her babe. Sam sat up groggy, his breath puffing pale from his open mouth. The longhall was dark with shadows, black and blacker. The hair on his arms was standing up.
