Dani acquires Missandei into her services and tells her the risks. Missandei’s response is the stoic phrase of “valar morghulis”.

This is another chance to compare the show with the book. The big difference, of course, is that in the show, Missandei is an adult. She and Daenerys are behaving almost like colleagues. Dany reveals her ability to speak Valerian with the badass “we are not men” line. (Though since it’s later revealed that Valerian isn’t gendered it loses a bit of it’s kick) Here in the book, Daenerys is clearly in control both as the ruler and an adult. She’s almost acting like a maternal figure to the twelve-year-old Missandei.
