A Storm of Swords – Falconry

A Storm of Swords – Falconry

Sansa bonds with Margaery Tyrell and does many activities with her including falconry.

This one was fun. I assumed that medieval falconry, or at least the kind of falconry a princess would be participating in, would essentially be the medieval version of skeet shooting. So I included a beater to ensure there was plenty of game for the hawks to catch.

On a side note, one problem I have with the scene is I can’t imagine a peregrine falcon going after, let alone taking out, a heron. Though admittedly this might be because the herons I know are the Great Blues which are pretty darn big and perhaps the one Margaery’s peregrine takes down is a European Gray Heron which is noticeably smaller.

But the waterfowl teemed in the marshes along the bay, and Sansa’s merlin brought down three ducks while Margaery’s peregrine took a heron in full flight.
