A Storm of Swords – Shae

A Storm of Swords – Shae

Varys delivers Shae to Tyrion for their midnight tryst.

I admit it. I kind of choked on this one. My original idea was to have Shae in the foreground kneeling over Tyrion, with Varys in the background. That way I get to show off Varys’s matron disguise.

Instead, I decided it was too similar to the first illustration in the chapter, and did it from Varys’s point of view. I should have trusted my instincts.

On a side note, this has me wondering yet again how many identities Varys has. Not disguises, mind you, identities are the ones he has to spend a significant chunk of his time maintaining. We know the other goalers know Rugen. How many times does the matron have to be seen doing her rounds for her to easily walk around the red keep without being noticed?

I haven’t been obsessed enough to do a deep dive looking for appearances of Varys’s alter egos appearing without being identified, but I can’t help wondering about it.
