A Storm Of Swords – The King is Dead

With Aerys Targaryen dead at his feet and his sword still covered in blood, Jamie announces the death of the king.

This scene always reminds me of the final scene from Casablanca. Though I think Louis’s men would have arrested Rick he still had his gun in his hands whatever Louis said.

I really had a hard time with Jamie’s helm. I’ve had bad luck with these animal helmets. I’ve yet to find a real example of them. And while I’ve seen some very well-designed fantasy versions, I’m trying to avoid that sort of thing. The hardest thing I had was with the mane. Not getting into the question of whether Westerosi lions have much of a mane at all, would the mane be metal or hair attached to the helmet. Admittedly, If it was metal I’m not sure how easy it would be for Jamie to turn his head.

“Tell them the Mad King is dead,” he commanded. “Spare all those who yield and hold them captive.”
