Guards! Guards! Nice Sword
The rank takes a break and talks about how having a sword and a birthmark does not make you a king. Carrot makes his point by pointing out that he has a sword and a birthmark and he’s not a king. However, Colon can’t help noticing that the birthmark is shaped like a crown. And the sword, while not a fancy or magic sword, is a sword that is very good at killing people.
I found this picture to be one of the best examples of why you really have to follow the source material to the letter. When I started this drawing I started with how I remembered it without looking at the book. What I remembered was from the graphic novel adaption by Stephen Briggs and Graham Higgins. Higgins has the three off duty in the Mended Drum. However, when I looked at the scene to double-check something I found that they were hanging out in the alley next to the Drum cadging a free drink. Let’s just say I had to do a lot of erasing.

“But not one for a king, “said Carrot. “Kings’ swords are big and shiny and magical and have jewels on and when you hold them up they catch the light, ting. “
