The Dragon Attacks

The Dragon Attacks

So far we’ve only had second-hand evidence of the dragon, either from victims reacting to it or the charred remains of the victims. This is the first time we see it.

I’m not completely sure if I’ve gotten it quite right. Other than it being a classic fantasy dragon, the only description Mr. Pratchett gives is, “vaguely horselike”. In doing so I’m not sure it looks scary enough. This is important because despite how funny this book is, Mr. Pratchett does the dragon completely straight.

This looks a little bit like the dragon from Shrek, right after it’s revealed to be a “lady dragon” and starts batting her eyelashes at Donkey. (of course for all of you who’ve read the entire book, this is not completely inappropriate.)

The great beast turned in the air and swooped over the rooftops. The flame darted out again. Below it, yellow flames spraying up. It was done so quietly and stylish leave it took Vimes several seconds to realize that several buildings had in fact been on set fire.
