A Clash of Kings – Hostage and Prisoner

“This is craven,” Ser Rodrik said. “To use a child so . . . this is despicable.”
“Oh, I know,” said Theon. “It’s a dish I tasted myself, or have you forgotten? I was ten when I was taken from my father’s house, to make certain he would raise no more rebellions.”

A Clash of Kings Chapter 65 – Theon

The chickens are coming home to roost in the form of Rodrik Cassel and the Northern Army. But Theon has a hostage, Ser Rodrik’s daughter, Beth. When Rodrik calls him on this Theon says that this is no different than when he was Ned Stark’s ward.

I’m continually embarrassed by how badly I remembered the Theon chapters. To make matters worse, the show kept filling the gaps in my memory. Because of this, I was surprised when Theon did not execute Rodrik Cassel. I kept expecting it to happen eventually. In reality, he’ll be killed in battle in a couple of pages. The show had Theon kill him in the fall of Winterfell to make things more dramatic.
