A Clash of Kings – Dagmar
Dagmer’s grin twisted his lips apart and showed the brown splinters of his teeth. “Nor for his trueborn son?” He hooted. “I know you too well, Theon. I saw you take your first step, helped you bend your first bow. ‘Tis not me who feels wasted.”
A Clash of Kings Chapter 37 – Theon
Theon manipulates Dagmar Cleftjaw into helping him with his scheme. I have mixed feelings about that scene. On the one side, Dagmar is one of those fun tertiary characters who need all of the attention he can get. Unfortunately, on the other hand, it draws attention to a handful of the details in this book that don’t add up.
Not getting into how the Ironborn mostly use longships, when longships are mostly anachronistic in the setting Mr. Martin is writing about, but I’ve yet to find any that have cabins. When I googled Viking longship and all I got was literature on a Norwegian hotel chain. Not only that, considering how big the North is, the target for the diversionary tactic Theon is proposing is also too far away. Sure, the argument about whether Westeros is the size of South America or not will go on, but a horse raid on Torren’s Square would be too far away if Westeros were the size of France!
And that’s not getting into how far away Theon’s real target is.
Still, I take a deep breath and draw what Mr. Martin tells me to.
