A Clash of Kings – Lancel

In today's A Clash of Kings illustration, Tyrion holds certain things over his cousin Lancel's head.

“It was not like that!” Lancel protested, horrified.

A Clash of Kings – Chapter 29 – Tyrion

Tyrion’s midnight encounter with Lancel is one of the scenes that makes it hard to get the scene from the show out of my head. Fortunately, unlike some of the other scenes where this has come up, it has not been altered or improved upon where sticking to the text is a struggle. The big difference is in the show, Lancel comes to Tyrion’s quarters at a reasonable hour. Eugene Simone’s performance suggests he is aware of just how much in over his head he is.

In the book, he comes in the middle of the night. He’s hoping to have woken Tyrion up and catching him off guard. Tyrion, having been up reading reports, plays this up to reel Lancel in.

Otherwise it was an easy scene to do. Mr. Martin tells us exactly what Lancel was wearing. (I was going to give him a foppish hat). The only problems I had was once again trying to figure out what a bed robe is in the context of the fifteenth century, and wondering where Tyrion put down his wine cup.
