Clash of Kings – Refugees

Clash of Kings – Refugees

I’ve been working on my Clash of Kings sketch challenge for almost two weeks. Only now have I realized I haven’t gotten around to show the Red Comet. So here it is in the second Arya chapter where she witnesses mass migration of refugees from the Riverlands.

I think I’ve mentioned before is one of the best things about doing these series is the chance to show the scale of everything. Even at its smallest (the fan pages I follow has some interesting arguments on the topic), Westeros is a big place, with a huge population. Apart from the occasional set-piece each season, the show could never afford it. Hiring all of the extras for close-ups alone would have broken their budget. However, it only takes me fifteen minutes to draw a line of people who cross the horizon.

In today's A Clash of Kings Illustration, Arya watches refugees fleeing south as she heads north to the Wall.

They walked south, toward the city, toward King’s Landing, and only one in a hundred spared so much as a word for Yoren and his charges, traveling north. She wondered why no one else was going the same way as them.
