Inktober 2020 – Day Thirty – Ominous

Ominous was probably one of the hardest prompts on this list. It’s a deliberately vague term from a visual perspective, and it’s hard to draw a feeling.

One of the best tactics for doing Inktober is to look up the word in the dictionary. Then you find the etymology and try to get every obscure meaning you can out of it. In this case, it didn’t really help. Ominous means “Of or pertaining to an omen or to omens; being or exhibiting an omen; significant.” This was still hard to visualize. Even if I went for an accurate portrayal, it wouldn’t be clear.

But I tried my best. I’m pretty happy with the look of it considering the limitations I’ve given myself. (Though I’m not completely sure if it’s clear that Godzilla may or may not be about to be coming out of the water).

The city watches in dread as something ominous comes out of the water.
