Inktober 2020 – Day Eight – Teeth
I confess my approach today’s prompt, “teeth” is a bit of a stretch. However, since I’d already done vampires and sharks, so far, and my options for monsters with lots of teeth were limited. I finally decided the teeth didn’t have to be in something’s mouth. This led me to shark tooth necklaces. Because I’ve been going through another one of my PC, it’s bad to offend people unintentionally, I didn’t want to do anything overtly tribal, which had me looking back to my slightly inbred Yankee brethren. This of course led me to the deep ones from H.P. Lovecraft’s Shadow over Innsmouth.
I always find myself drawn to this story. Perhaps it’s because growing up I new far too many small, isolated, communities like that. In fact, I always imagined Innsmouth as an extremely rundown version of Gloucester Massachusetts.
At the same time, I always found myself sympathizing with the Deep Ones, imagining them becoming more overtly assimilated. To the point that it would only be a matter of time before the Esoteric Order of Dagon had a bingo night.
Come to think of it my family had quite a few sea captains on my mother’s side, in which case… Ia-R’lyehl Cihuiha flgagnl id Ia!
