Game of Thrones – Little Bird

Game of Thrones – Little Bird

Today’s illustration, the first time Sansa gets called “Little Bird” by Sandor Clegane, is proof I need to read the whole chapter no matter what. I was just finished putting the finishing touches on the sketch of Sandor’s armor. Then I flipped back a page to find out he was wearing his tunic!

I like this scene. Because this is the first time we begin to see any depth from Sandor. Since this is from Sansa’s point of view, we still see him as Joffrey’s angry paid muscle. He will be Joffrey’s muscle for another book. However, this is the first time we see a crack in that perception. Sansa just unintentionally pressed one of Sandor’s buttons and he’s genuinely pissed.

I frequently wonder just why Sandor volunteers this information to Sansa. Was it something about Sansa that made him go into all that detail, or has he left a long line of traumatized fangirls?

Sandor Clegane tells Sansa Stark the story of how he got his scars.
Sandor Clegane stopped suddenly in the middle of the dark and empty field. She had no choice but stop beside him. “Some septa trained you well. You’re like one of those birds from the Summer Isles, aren’t you? A pretty little talking bird, repeating all the pretty little words they taught you to recite.”
